Photography Workshop

July 27 to August 2 Workshop

Our late July and early August workshop gets you into some of our peak bear viewing in remote tundra locations, with chances to view bears fishing for bright red spawning salmon in crystal-clear streams. 

July 27:
-1:00 p.m. check in for flight from Anchorage to The Farm Lodge. The flight to the lodge takes you through the scenic Lake Clark Pass, where you will see glaciers and glacial streams in one of Alaska's most beautiful mountainous settings.

-Check in to The Farm Lodge. Lodging includes a room with private bath, home-cooked Alaskan meals, and daily maid service.

-Orientation and setup with professional photographer/naturalist Jim Barr.

July 28:
-Floatplane Fire and Ice Tour. Travel by floatplane over some of Alaska's must rugged and breathtaking landscape. This day takes you to see active volcanoes, glaciers, mountains, and tundra landscape.

-Optional evening floatplane shoot at remote lake.

July 29:
-Morning review and workshop (to be held each morning after breakfast).

-Floatplane fly-out for photographing Grizzly/Brown Bears, spawning Salmon, tundra, and scenic landscape.  Our bear viewing takes us into a remote area where the bears have gathered to feed on a massive run of Sockeye Salmon.

July 30:
-Floatplane scenic tour of Lake Clark National Park's mountainous lakes for landscape photography. This day includes photography focusing on glacial-fed mountainous lakes and tundra landscapes as well as time at Dick Proenneke's historical cabin on Twin Lakes. If you get a chance to pick up a book entitled One Man's Wilderness, it will give you some great background of the area.

-Optional evening shoot on Lake Clark by boat.

Juy 31:
-Boat on Lake Clark for scenic landscape photography. Lake Clark is over 40 miles long, sitting in the edge of the Chimit Mountans. This day in the boat offers access to spectacular landscape and scenery.

-Optional evening shoot on Lake Clark by boat.

August 1:
-Local hiking to the Lake Clark National Park Service Visitor's Center, Tanalian Falls, and Kontrashibuna Lake.

-Optional evening shoot on Lake Clark by boat.

August 2:
-2:00 p.m. check out and return flight to Anchorage.

-PRICE= $6475.00 per person (party of 2).  Custom pricing available for parties of 3 or more .

Our packages are designed for small groups and provide you with a personalized experience. The activities take you into Alaska's most remote areas for chances to photograph bears, caribou, eagles, tundra, glaciers, waterfalls, mountains, and much more. The floatplane and guides are with you for the day, giving you the flexibility to move about and explore the best of the remote Alaska backcountry. These tours truly take you away from the crowd and into Alaska the way it is meant to be experienced.

The Farm Lodge is now taking reservations for 2008 and 2009. A 50% deposit is required in order to hold a reservation against other inquiries, with balance due 2 months before the date of your stay. The deposit is refundable up to 80% only if all cancellations are made no less than 60 days before the scheduled travel date. If you are planning a visit in 2009, you can take advantage of our 2008 rates by making reservations before January 1 of 2009.  Rates will increase if reservations are not made before January 1 of 2009. Important Notes
*Due to the varied age of our staff and the wide diversity of groups we host at The Farm Lodge, we do not allow alcoholic beverages in the main lodge building (dining room). The Farm Lodge does not serve lunch in its dining room but provides excellent box lunches for each day of your stay. The above packages include the transportation of up to 50 pounds of luggage per person between Anchorage and Lake Clark, with everything over 50 pounds traveling at 80 cents per pound, each way. The package rates also include park service fees and taxes. The rates do not include voluntary gratuities.
